Marion Bell and I had a great reading with Lee Bricetti and Airea D Matthews at Antidote Books in Putney VT. This reading was sponsered by the Ruth Stone Foundation. Great to read to a full bookstore on a Saturday night. And hanging out with Marion over the weekend as the leaves were turning a little red and a cord and a half of wood got dropped in our host's yard--we felt as Marion said rejuvenated. The Ruth Stone Foundation will be having an auction to raise money this fall and I'm offering a manuscript consultation as one of the items. I'll post more on this when a link develops. I would love to offer one to an auction customer and one for free to a poet from a marginalized population (i.e. I pay the fee). Stay tuned. Looking forward to spending time this month reading books I haven't gotten around to this year, especially wonderful new books I bought/hoarded at AWP in Portland. It's a great way to explore new work by poets of color and to think about the ways we can speak from our own truth rather than the standards that help us no longer, in life and in poetics. I did it last year and loved it so much and am lucky I have the time to do it. Thanks Ms. Sealey. Just wanted to put a summer update out there: I enjoyed a month residency at Somos Artist House in Berlin. I enjoyed being around multidiciplinary visual artists, living with and exchanging ideas with them. When I was leaving for the residency I had planned to draft two short stories which I did, but it felt more like a time to think over my practices as an artist, the worth of political art and art in general, and ask myself what would I do if I were not a writer? Marcia Vaitsman and I had a great time thinking about games, labor, women and group dynamics around handicraft given my experience with teaching Quilts and her interest in interactive and game oriented exhibitions. I also was so lucky to witness the performative art of Alison Matthews who performed a dazzling one woman cabaret that incorporated ideas from John Berger, Twin Peaks, and her own life.
